Talk:HowTos/Root Filesystem on external media
From OpenZaurus
There is something strange going on here. When I copy the .ipk altboot images to the CF card, the zaurus install app will not see them, even while it sees other packages that i just copied over also. I even just upgraded the rom to the latest.

I have spent many an hour searching for some instructions on how to set up my collie to have the root file system on the SD card. I have come across many inferences that imply it can be done. But nowhere can I find some instructions on how. There are many links to a website that doesn't seem to alive. In fact it seems that most links all take me to that same site. http://openzaurus.linuxtogo.org/
My collie has OZ 3.5.4 Opie 1.2.0 Linux Kernel 2.4.18. My collie is a SL-5000d. I gather that it is almost imperitive that I free up as much of the installed ram as possible in order to function very well. I'm ok with that consept. I've purchased a PNY 1gb SD card for this purpose. Now I need to know how. But I can't seem to find the instructions on how. :(
Can anybody help? Is there another website, blog, chat room, bulliten board forum or whatever that exists that can I can find help.
- What is unclear? This page gives you the information you need as far as I can see. "altboot" is the magic word. If anything is unclear, you might try #openzaurus on irc as well. --Laibsch 20:21, 4 February 2007 (CET)
I put a rather detailed description in the article section. I think this issue is one of the important questions people face (without an SD/CF root, SL-5600 would be rather limited for instance), and so it is important to have a detailed description in wiki. This is probably not the best way to do this, but I hope it provides a "pedantic" framework that is more understandable by us users.--Gurcani 01:18, 19 March 2007 (CET)
