Talk:HowTos
From OpenZaurus
Just some random thoughts... Organization is currently breaking down and I'd like to somehow fix it.
I now realize that putting the HowTos in a strict hierarchy is probably a mistake. There is just too much information that can appear in different places. We do need a few well-written HowTos, but most of the info that appears on this site is scattershot. Therefore, I think we need to adopt wikipedia's categories. You create a small page, add it to a category, and use categories for navigation. Much easier to maintain than a hierarchy.
Now... what categories do we need? MachineNames, HostOSes, Topics, ...?
In fact, pretty much every page on this site is a howto. Even the installation instructions tell how to install oz. The only exception I can think of offhand are the machine pages, Collie, Spitz, etc. So what sense is there in stuffing everything under /HowTo?
And really, there's basically no difference between a long FAQ entry and a short HOWTO. In fact, I think there's even overlap. I wonder if the FAQ and short HOWTOs should be merged somehow.
