2.6 kernel notes

Many informations are provided on separate page: Kernel 2.6 Informations

all models

  • SD/MMC cards larger then 1GB are working, except for collie of course.
  • sound is done by ALSA - use alsamixer in terminal to control it, or under GPE use the "Audio Mixer" application (gpe-mixer) found in "Other"
  • keyboard repeat is normal (was too fast in previous releases)
  • halt/reboot/poweroff works as should
  • Green LED is used to show NAND Flash activity
  • use FN + <cursor-left> and FN + <cursor-right> to switch between console VTs (or back to OPIE/GPE) - this does not work in GPE/OPIE as they takeover keyboard control
  • Sharp CE-RH1/CE-RH2 remotes do not work
  • Sharp camera card does not work and never will
  • Some SD/MMC cards results in I/O errors, timeouts - we're working on it.
  • time can be lost on reboot
  • CPU Frequency change is supported via cpufreq - available are 100/200/300/400MHz settings (no overclocking)
  • Backlight range is increased (when compared to SharpROM)

Tosa

  • touchscreen is not linear - see this picture - solved in 3.5.4.2-rc2
  • Green LED blink on each suspend and on each resume
  • wifi config need removal of usbctl (or new version of it) - solved in 3.5.4.2-rc2
  • USB Host driver does not support PM - need to be removed before suspend or machine will not resume (script which do it is present in 3.5.4.2-rc2 images)
  • sometimes battery status report 0% - suspend/resume help

Poodle

  • The current code for detection of battery level need calibration, so just now the kernel shut down the machine at 25% for safety reasons.
  • Cancel button does not suspend

Collie

  • SD/MMC is not supported at all - lack of documentation
  • USB Gadget support is not tested
  • no sound support

Base system notes

  • Images contains just a minimal timezone configuration (only for some subset of locations). If you need more then install the timezones package for your continent.
  • poodle images lack some kernel modules
  • Momentanly the rc1 version will complain about finding the wrong kernel, cause the installed kernel is still flagged as rc0. If the reported version of kernel is exactly the rc0 just ignore the warning; elsewhere the warning is a real warning

Opie notes

  • if you used SharpROM before then move somewhere /home/root/Settings/ /home/root/Applications directories and then flash.
  • Take off SD and CF cards before first boot
  • VT applet is removed from base install - install opie-vtapplet if you need it
  • Logout applet is removed from base install - install opie-logoutapplet if you need it

GPE notes

  • All hotkeys (Calendar, Home, etc) are not yet configured
  • Default font-sizes on VGA devices with >=200DPI should now be actually readable.
